• Guest Speakers: Nik Patel, Director of Public Works & Sage Kamiya, City Engineer

  Nikesh (“Nik”) Patel, Public Works Director – City of Sarasota

  Nik Patel joined the City of Sarasota in 2021 as City Engineer and was appointed Public Works Director in August 2025. He oversees capital project delivery, multimodal transportation planning, and maintenance of roadway, stormwater, and coastal infrastructure, solid waste, and fleet, supporting the City’s priorities in sustainable development and community resiliency.
  

  Nik holds a master’s degree in engineering management and dual bachelor’s degrees in civil and mechanical engineering from the University of South Florida, along with Professional Engineer licensure and certifications in traffic operations, planning, and public management.
  
  

  Sage Kamiya, PE, PTOE, City Engineer
  
• Sage Kamiya is the City Engineer for the City of Sarasota, bringing nearly 30 years of engineering experience in both public and private sectors. A fourth-generation Floridian and descendant of the founders of Florida’s first Japanese settlement, Sage holds a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Florida State University and an MBA from the University of South Florida. He is a licensed Professional Engineer and certified Professional Traffic Operations Engineer, recognized with multiple honors including ASCE’s Government Engineer of the Year and Project of the Year awards. In his role, he oversees engineering services, capital projects, transportation planning, and environmental engineering for the city.
